In the video, they talk about how social media makes us become who we are and how it constructs us even though we created it. People are codependent with it since we become what social media lets us be. The speaker also talks about her research study with a social media platform, Second Life. She finds that social media post fall under three categories: market, play, and sociality. This shows that social media limits our identity to the three categories.
One example of how social media has influenced me is by they way I dress. Social media made it faster and easier for different clothing styles to trend. People tend to go for what’s trendy now to fit into society. Another way social media has influenced me is the way I see myself. Social media has increased the beauty standards of people, which can make people insecure of what they post or how they look. I agree with the speaker because social media has a big impact on society, especially on how people act. Social media has also impacted the way people dress and the way people see themselves. This is because we allow what we see on social media to influence us such as impacting our minds to think that we have to follow the beauty standard. I definitely think that social media constructs us to be who we are now.

A conglomerate, the big guy, in the music industry is a record label and they are considered a large player in media since they help artist produce and promote their music. An example of this can be Sony Music or Universal Music Group, which provides media internationally. The little guy would be an independent artist. An example of this can be Childish Gambino or Migos since they aren’t signed to a major record label and produce their own music. Record labels sign artists and hire composers and distributers, whereas individual artists produce, compose, and distribute their music on their own. Record labels reach their audience and promote/deliver their music is by having distributors. They promote the artist easily by distributing their music internationally. Independent artists do not have that opportunity from major record labels so promoting their music will be harder and most likely be national or local since they have to do it on their own. Some advantages of being the big guy in terms of production and distribution is that the artist’s music will reach more of the audience and the artist won’t have to promote their music on their own. However, some disadvantages are that the big guy is in control of the artist and they also can take a large portion of their pay. Some advantages of being the little guy is that the artist can produce media that they like, and they don’t have to get it passed by their record label. On the downside, it will be harder for the artist to promote their music and distribute it internationally.
In the article, it discusses how news and social media can affect our mental health and thoughts. Reading something in the media creates a bias without knowing it. This can change our perspectives of different countries and our views on other topics. The article then speaks about the health issues that media can cause. Media can raise anxiety and other emotions, increasing chances of heart attacks/heart problems. PTSD and stress are more likely to develop by watching the news.
I agree with the article because it does create a bias in society. Due to the media/false information, people get the wrong information, creating a bias that they'll never get out of. This reveals that society is vastly divided all because of the media. When discussing mental health, the news makes people extremely worried about topics such as COVID and attacks on the country. By the way they present the news, it can raise anxiety and stress.

The continuance of the development of digital media technology is extremely vial to media institutions and audiences. Large media institutions are allowed to stay relevant by keeping up with the developing media. An example of this can be Walt Disney as they use media platforms to keep their audience engaged and informed on updates about their media. The development of digital media has benefitted these companies by being able to post on social media, which can give their audience insights on openings of new parks or on release dates of movies. The development of digital media technology has been a key component of helping media institutions grow.

Although in a global pandemic, Hollywood's famous Canadian, The Weeknd, has achieved one of his biggest goals: to perform at the Super Bowl. Hear his story as of how he grew up to be a hit sensation. Preparation for Writing the Article: My article is going to be a biography about the singer/songwriter, The Weeknd. My magazine focuses on artists that appeal to the target audience, which is gen Z and millennial. Research I found: https://www.biography.com/musician/the-weeknd https://www.billboard.com/articles/business/chart-beat/9527151/the-weeknd-super-bowl-five-burning-questions/ https://www.grammy.com/grammys/artists/weeknd/18167 https://www.allmusic.com/artist/the-weeknd-mn0002674162/biography https://www.aceshowbiz.com/celebrity/the_weeknd/biography.html Article Planning: My article will be in the format of a double page spread. The first page will have pictures of The Weeknd and the second page will have a picture of The Weeknd on the top half and the biography on the bottom page. Template for Magazine: The article is a biography on a man named James Lavelle that was written by Dorian Lynskey. James Lavelle is an English musician who is also the founder of Mo’Wax, which is a record label since 1992. In the biography, Lynskey speaks about James Lavelle’s past and how he recovered from being bankrupted and financially unstable. He also touches on Lavelle’s record label and projects, Mo’Wax and UNKLE. In the beginning, Lynskey writes about how Lavelle celebrated his 24th birthday in an enthusiastic tone. Lavelle had a party at London’s Met Bar with his friends, Noel Gallagher, Richard Ashcroft, Ian Brown, Carl Craig, Alexander McQueen, and drugs. The article then transitions from how he celebrated his 24th birthday to how he had to sell his prize possession: a painting by Jean-Michel Basquiat. In 2003, his record label, Mo’Wax, had died and a great amount of debt, leading to him having to sell the painting that was described as “beautiful” by Lavelle. After the discussion of Lavelle’s downfall, the article switches to talking about his success as Lavelle questions his career such as the 21st anniversary of Mo’Wax in 2013, a documentary called Artist & Repertoire. The author adds quotes from Lavelle as he speaks about his past and how he got through his financial problems. The article ends with the author saying that Lavelle’s album, The Road: Part 1, opens with the questions, “Have you looked at yourself? And have you thought about the mistakes you’ve made, and the road you’ve walked?”, which James Lavelle can relate to. Throughout the article, the author shifts the tone from enthusiastic to depressing to hopeful and optimistic. A depressing tone was created due to the shift in topic when the author speaks about his financial issues, using phrases such as “By 2003, however, his star had plunged.” and “Mo’ Wax was dead…” The author included the last sentence, “James Lavelle has.” in order to create an impact on the audience. This impacts the audience because it shows how Lavelle has gone from rock bottom when he was in debt of 270,000 euros to having a new UNKLE album and celebrating the 21st anniversary of Mo’Wax.
1. One way an editor impacts the film is shifting the perspective of the film. This can change the way the audience sees the characters and their story.
2. Another way that an editor can impact the film is by being able to make the scenes look like they are shaking with the film, such as a heartbeat or a rhythm. This impacts the film because it catches the audience's eyes and makes the scene more interesting. 3. An editor can impact the film by enhancing the emotions in a scene through cuts and timing. The editor impacts a film by enhancing the original scenes using cuts at the right time/ rhythm. This can put a spotlight on a certain part of the film, create more emotions throughout the film, and make the film more interesting. |
